In class this week, we’ll cover a range of topics to prepare for the major assignments as well as our second class reading activity (CRA).
Your reading this week (CRA2) is Carol Anderson’s op-ed essay “Ferguson isn’t about black rage against cops. It’s white rage against progress” published in The Washington Post in 2014. I’ve opened CRA2 signup posts in Slack. Please use the react/emjoi feature in Slack to select which of the four CRA roles you’ll complete for CRA2 by the end of the day today.
In Monday’s class we will:
- Read and discuss the Major Assignment guidelines.
- Sign-up for Major Assignment due dates on a collaborative spreadsheet.
- Spend time reviewing responses and discussing possible revisions to CRA1.
- Discuss Phase One writing.
In Wednesday’s class we will:
- Discuss the rhetorical appeals and canons
- Complete a workshop on the three categories of useful sources
- Discuss Phase Two writing
- Plan/collaborate on CRA2/Anderson
Don’t forget that Monday of next week we will take a quiz on Mike Caulfield’s Web Resources for Student Fact-Checkers (sections I-IV), and be sure to have selected your Major Assignment due dates by the end of this week.
