Our first reading will be:
“The Truth of Fact, the Truth of Feeling,” a short story by Ted Chiang, 2013
In class we will complete several quick activities. I will explain how I want students to be ready for our reading discussion in Wednesday’s class.
Our required reading for the semester is “Searches: Selfhood in the Digital Age” by Vauhini Vara, 2025. Make sure that you have a copy of that book by next Monday, 8/31.

Review Class Reading Activity (CRA) blog post: These activities will occur throughout the semester. Sign up for your task on Discord by this Friday (8/28), but feel free to claim your spot during class. Come to class prepared with answers to discuss relevant to your task on Monday (8/31).

Major assignments
- Technoliteracy narrative (3 writing phases resulting in a 600-700 word essay)
- Rhetorical analysis (3 writing phases resulting in a 1000-1200 word essay)
- Op-Ed to a newspaper or magazine (1400-1500 word essay and 300-400 word reflection)
Hybrid Activity

Come to class prepared with typed drafts of your CRA tasks to the extent that you are able. Inclass folks should be prepared for discussion. Curators are exempt.
Conduct a technology “observation” of yourself for 4 four period. Compose 150 words from your observation. Save to your own file titled “Technoliteracy Journal.”
