Rhetorical Analysis, Assignment Guidelines
The essay should
- Be formatted according to MLA standards (see Purdue OWL resource for help)
- Comprise 1000-1200 words
- Clearly indicate within the first paragraph which text you’re analyzing and a thesis statement that communicates the general direction of your analysis
- Analyze your chosen text in an organized and consistent way throughout the body of your essay
- Quote significantly from your chosen text while explaining and analyzing the argument
- Cite and directly from two additional academic or journalistic sources separate from your chosen text
- Including all three sources in a Works Cited section that follows the essay
- Proposed Due Date: Monday, 11/2
On Monday we discussed strategies for analyzing a common article (“Waymo makes case for robotaxi safety citing its data, including in Atlanta” by Turnbull in the AJC
On Wednesday we will discuss the the application of those strategies to other articles.
A first Phase One (1600 words) will be due to Discord by Friday, 10/16.
Peer Review (5 Phase One comments) for two classmates will be due by Sunday, 10/18. If you do not submit a Phase One draft, you are not eligible for receiving points for the Peer Review activity.
Come to class on Monday, 10/19, having read any comments and having made some of your own. On Monday I will approve students to move on to Phase Two for Wednesday or assign a second Phase One draft for Wednesday.
